RECIPE - Royal Icing

Royal Icing

Finally, a royal icing recipe that is not intimidating! Easy and great to use.

Looks very professional. Both recipes from Better Homes and Gardens
Ingredients Quantity
Powdered Sugar 4 cups
Meringue Powder 3 tbsp
Cream of Tartar 1/2 tsp
Water 1/2 cup (Add 2 additional tbsp for thinner icing)
Vanilla 1 tsp
Assorted colors of paste food coloring Optional
Directions
In a large bowl, combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and cream of tartar
Add the ½ cup of water and the vanilla.
Beat with electric mixer on low speed until combined, then on high speed for 7-10 minutes or until very stiff.
Add the 2-4 tablespoons water if desiring thinner icing.
*If decorating with more than one color, divide icing into individual bowls and tint with desired food coloring.
**Tip: I like to use 8 oz. squeeze bottles for each of my colors. I outline each cookie first, and then I go back in and fill it in with the icing. If using more than one color to decorate, wait until first color is completely dry.
